10 Dog-Friendly Things to Do on the Sunshine Coast
Share
If you live on the Sunshine Coast with a small dog, you are already in one of the best places in Australia to have one. Here are ten genuinely great things to do together.
1. Mooloolaba Esplanade
The esplanade is wide, flat and almost always busy with people who want to say hello to your dog. Dogs are welcome on leads along the path and on the grass areas. Cafes with outdoor seating line the strip and most are relaxed about well-behaved dogs.
2. Noosa Main Beach foreshore
Dogs are allowed on the foreshore path outside of peak summer restrictions. The walking track between the main beach and the national park is one of the prettiest dog walks in Queensland.
3. Buderim Forest Park
A shaded rainforest walk that stays cool even in summer. Dogs on leads are welcome on the main walking tracks. The waterfall at the end is worth the effort.
4. Hastings Street, Noosa
One of the most dog-tolerant shopping strips in Australia. Multiple cafes with outdoor seating actively welcome dogs, and the boutique shops are used to four-legged browsers. Small dogs in carriers are especially easy here.
5. Coolum Beach dog beach
The northern end of Coolum Beach is off-lead for dogs during certain hours. Check current council rules before you go, but on a quiet morning it is hard to beat.
6. Eumundi Markets
Wednesday and Saturday markets that are generally dog friendly in the outdoor areas. Busy and stimulating for small dogs, best managed in a carrier so they can watch without getting underfoot.
7. Montville village
The hinterland village is relaxed, walkable and most of the cafes and galleries welcome dogs either outside or with their owners' discretion. The drive up is beautiful too.
8. Caloundra coastal walk
The walk from Kings Beach around the headland to Bulcock Beach is short, scenic and consistently good. Dogs on leads are welcome and the views across to Bribie Island are excellent.
9. Twin Waters dog park
A fully fenced off-lead dog park with separate areas for large and small dogs. Good for letting a small dog run without the anxiety of larger dogs approaching.
10. Everywhere with a good carrier
Honestly, the thing that changes how much your small dog can come with you is having a carrier you are willing to bring. A foldable shoulder carrier that packs flat into your bag means your dog can join you at markets, cafes and walks without you planning around it. That is the real unlock.
